The snapshot series:
The snapshot series does exactly as it says on the tin - it gives a short introduction to places where Magellan personnel have visited under four main headings - Where is it, Why Visit, When should I go and Anything Else. As with all towns and cities, there is so much more to do and see than we have listed so always check the local tourist websites.
Where is it?
Oxford is a city in the South East region of England and the county tow of Oxfordshire. It has 1,500 listed buildings of various architectural periods from the eleventh century onwards.
Why visit?
For oh so many reasons. To see the dreaming spires, to follow in the footsteps of Tolkien, CS Lewis and many more, to visit Morse and Lewis country, to go punting along the River Cherwell, to visit The Grand Café, England’s first coffee house dating from 1650, to climb a tower for the views, to visit the circular Radcliffe Camera housing the Bodleian, to tour one of the many colleges, to wander around the Ashmolean ….just a few of the treats in store in this gentle city.
When should I go there?
At any time of the year. It’s relatively close to the Cotswolds, to Stratford-upon-Avon, to Cheltenham etc so there’s always something happening within easy reach.
Anything else?
Stay at the recently refurbished Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel which is located on the historic, 1,000 year old High Street, opposite part of Magdalen College. It’s a well-placed base from which to explore and even better, there’s a Marco’s NewYork Italian Restaurant right next door. Watch out for mad cyclists - they are everywhere - so why not join the throng and do a cycling tour then you’ll fit in like a local! Visit DemiJohn, The Liquid Deli, for customised gifts like no other.
