Basel’s Christmas Market is considered by many to be the prettiest and largest in Switzerland with European visitors thronging to its many stalls and restaurants. This year, the market will open on 26th November until 23rd December and, if you book accommodation via www.basel.com, you will receive a number of exclusive vouchers to extend that Christmas budget!
The Christmas Market is located on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz, right in the centre of the city and at the heart of the festively decorated Old Town. A magnificent Christmas tree stands on the Münsterplatz, with ornaments by the Couturier of Christmas, Johann Wanner.
Over 180 traders and artisans will offer their goods for sale in small, rustic wooden chalets from 11 am to 8.30 pm daily. Anyone still looking for gift ideas can seek inspiration in the wide selection and enchanting ambience. Culinary delights also abound with waffles, glühwein, genuine Basel Läckerli (a kind of gingerbread), delicious Swiss raclette or the popular grilled sausages. Visitors may also enjoy Christmas delicacies and a festive atmosphere at Claraplatz (in Kleinbasel, on the right banks of the Rhine).
Check on the Basel website for Christmas-themed events.
