Lifestyle: Heineken Experience

August 17, 2016 By Alexandra

The lifestyle series:

The lifestyle series takes a look at what’s hot and must sees around the world under five main headings – What, Where, Why, When and Anything Else.

What is it?

Housed inside Heineken’s historic brewery in the centre of Amsterdam, the Heineken Experience is an interactive museum that will take you on an exciting, behind-the-scenes journey through the wild world of one of Europe’s most popular pilsners.

Where is it?

The Heineken Experience is just a short distance from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, and is open daily from 10.30 until late and costs just €18 for adults (kids under 12 go free). There are some seasonal variations on visiting times so check here first.

Why visit?

Amsterdam has always been a city of beer lovers and is home to a number of breweries and great places to taste beer but Heineken is still the biggest name and one of the most traditional Amsterdam beers. After Heineken constructed a larger and more modern brewery on the outskirts of Amsterdam, they converted their former home into a museum that opened in 1991. Now dubbed the Heineken Experience, it offers four floors of multimedia exhibits, historical brewing artefacts and a tasting bar. There’s also ‘Brew Your Ride’, a 4D adventure that allows visitors to discover what it’s like to be a bottle of Heineken.

When should I go there?

Our top tip is to visit in the morning just before lunch and book your tickets online to beat the queues.

Anything else?

There are a number of chances to taste Amsterdam’s famous pint so maybe have a big breakfast and leave the bike at the hotel.
