Title: CATIE COPLEY EMBARKS ON
NEW ADVENTURE: CATIE COPLEY’S GREAT ESCAPE,
THE SECOND CHILDREN’S BOOK INSPIRED BY THE FAIRMONT
COPLEY PLAZA’S CANINE AMBASSADOR DEBUTS
Date of Release: June 2009
Boston, Massachusetts, Spring/summer, 2009 — This spring,
the adventures of Catie Copley, The Fairmont Copley Plaza’s
Canine Ambassador continue with the debut of Catie Copley’s
Great Escape, a new children’s book, published by David
R. Godine - available at The Fairmont Store at The Fairmont
Copley Plaza and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, and
bookstores throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In Catie Copley’s Great Escape, Boston’s favourite
black Labrador gets the opportunity to meet a new friend -
Santol, the Canine Ambassador at Fairmont Le Château
Frontenac in Quebec City. In the new book, Catie welcomes
Santol to Boston. In their adventure they discover the sites
of Boston and then venture to Quebec City to explore Santol’s
home. This is Catie's first holiday in a new city where she
finds plenty of opportunity for adventure.
Catie Copley’s Great Escape is written by Deborah Kovacs,
a Massachusetts-based author of more than 30 children’s
books, and features stunning illustrations by Boston-based
Jared T. Williams. A portion of the U.S. proceeds from Catie
Copley’s Great Escape will be donated to NEADS/Dogs
for Deaf and Disabled Americans, based in Princeton, Massachusetts.
Since 1976, NEADS has trained more than 1,000 service dogs
to assist deaf or physically disabled individuals. For more
information please visit www.neads.org.
A portion of the Canadian proceeds will be donated to MIRA,
based near Montreal, Canada. The MIRA Foundation trains more
than 150 guide dogs each year to help people with visual,
auditory, and physical disabilities. To learn more, please
visit www.mira.ca.
Arguably Boston’s most famous dog, Catie Copley joined
the hotel’s staff in 2004. A black Labrador originally
trained as a guide dog, The Fairmont Copley Plaza adopted
Catie when her friendly disposition and a vision problem of
her own made her unsuitable as a service dog. Santol, a St.
Pierre (a cross between a Bernese mountain dog and a Labernese),
was born in Quebec in April 2003. He was trained to be a guide
dog by the MIRA Foundation. As each hotel’s canine ambassador
Catie and Santol great guests in their lobbies, accompany
guests for walks and runs throughout their cities, attend
events, serve as community liaisons and are readily available
for a few moments of canine companionship and petting. Guests
may write to Catie at [email protected]
and Santol at [email protected].
