19th April 2013 - The Midi-Pyrenees stands as the largest region in France and it is rapidly becoming a popular getaway destination. With its unspoilt countryside and wide open spaces, villages of character and historical attractions, rivers and canals, vineyards and towns in the colours so typical of the South of France: Midi-Pyrénées is all about discovery, exploration, new experiences and the human touch. Famous for its gastronomy, friendly and endearing, this region takes up much of South-western France between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. New accommodation hot spots are becoming available quickly and here are three examples of what is new to 2013: VILLEFRANCHE-DE-ROUERGUE (AVEYRON): LA MAISON PAGO (“The House Pago”) This former canning workshop has been transformed into a bed and breakfast in the centre of the bastide of Villefranche, on the St James’s Way pilgrimage trail. It offers three comfortable bedrooms and two terraces, one of which has a panoramic view of the Collegiate Church of Notre Dame and over the rooftops of Villefranche de Rouergue, a great tourist site in Midi-Pyrénées. Rates range from 65 EURO (GBP 56) for one person to 100 EURO (GBP 86) for a family with two children. TOULOUSE (HAUTE-GARONNE): VILLA AUGUSTA Situated on the hillside overlooking Toulouse, This beautiful modern villa has opened a bed and breakfast in stylish, upmarket surroundings. The villa boasts facilities of exceptional quality, including a swimming pool, wooded grounds of 8,000 m2, a lounge area, gym and infra-red sauna. By arrangement, guests can also enjoy well-being and relaxation treatments given by a qualified professional during their stay for that added touch of luxury. Rates range from 85 EURO (GBP 73) – 100 EURO (GBP 86) for one and two persons out of season and 100 EURO (GBP 86)- 125 EURO (GBP 107) for one and two persons in season. LA CABANE DANS L’ARBRE (THE HUT IN THE TREE) This is a completely different form of accommodation located in Brassac, a commune in the Tarn department of Southern France, but is definitely one that needs to be experienced. Perched up in an oak tree you will find ‘the Hut’ in an exceptional green environment looking over the Natura 2000 classified valley. The couple that designed their dream ‘Hut’ Beatrice and Frederick welcome anyone that is interested in separating themselves from their hectic lifestyles. With an extremely friendly atmosphere, a kitchen-garden with vegetables produced according to the best ecological principles and the option to soak yourself in an outdoor Jacuzzi ‘the Hut’ is the perfect place to relieve all of your life stressors. Rates range from 100 EURO (GBP 86) to 600 EURO (GBP 514) in season (July/August). Prices vary dependent on group size and duration of stay. |
