Box Hill, 1st September 2015 - To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel has teamed up with Heritage Open Days and famous actress and animal rights campaigner, Virginia McKenna to provide an evening of reading and music. The parts of Emma Woodhouse and Jane Fairfax will be taken by Janet Forbes, soprano and Dorien Schouten, playing the original 1812 Broadwood piano as featured in ‘Emma’.
As proud supports of Heritage Open Days, the hotel has donated the use of the seventeenth century, Tithe Barn with its vaulted-ceiling and opulent surroundings. Guests who pop by the Emlyn Restaurant - located within the hotel - will also find a dedication to Emma’s picnic on Box Hill adorning the wall. Well, it is said that Jane wrote part of her famed novel at the Burford Bridge Hotel.
The performance will start at 19.30 on Thursday 10th September and there are still a limited number of tickets still available. All tickets must be pre-booked by email or post through the Dorking Halls Box Office with the last bookings taken Sunday 6th September.
