Midi-Pyrénées is the largest region of south-west France, alive with culture and charm. Situated on the banks of the Canal du Midi and the Garonne, the vivacious capital, the ‘Pink City’ of Toulouse has a flair for festivals and celebrations. The city is the centre of both French Rugby and the aerospace industry; visitors can visit the Airbus factory to learn more about this fascinating engineering.

The region is home to the most exhausting stages of the Tour de France in the Pyrénées, which is a renowned ski destination, particularly for families. The area also boasts many natural springs which have been transformed into spas, perfect to unwind after a long day on the slopes. Other areas of the countryside feature remarkable UNESCO sites, such as the grandiose spectacle of the Cirque de Gavarnie and Europe’s highest observatory at the Pic du Midi. The region’s beauty is evident in the towns and villages, including the pretty Conques and Belcastel, or the larger towns of Rodez and Cahors, with its unique and historical bridge.

Ideal for short breaks, the Midi-Pyrénées enjoys ‘Jazz in Marciac’ in the Tarn et Garonne, one of the most famous jazz festivals. Alternatively, visitors can experience the new Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, in the Tarn’s largest city, Albi and also take in a visit to the magnificent fortress cathedral, Saint Cécile. Other short break options include the Aveyron, which houses the stunningly engineered Millau Viaduct, created by Sir Norman Foster, the Château du Bosc, Toulouse Lautrec’s childhood home and the Michelin starred Michael Bras – one of the top 50 restaurants in the world.
