Robert M. Cornell

Managing Director, Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide

 

Robert M. Cornell, an executive with more than 30 years experience in the hotel, airline and travel industries serves as Managing Director of Preferred Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, a global brand of more than 120 independently owned luxury hotels and resorts.  Preferred maintains its world headquarters in Chicago and operates through offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Milan, Munich, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney.

 

From 1994 to 2001 Cornell was the Senior Vice President of Development for Preferred, where he supervised the company’s award-winning Preferred Standards of Excellence™ quality assurance programme.  Previously, he had been Senior Vice President of Sterling Hotels, a Dallas-based international hotel marketing and sales company.  He also spent 12 years with Four Seasons Hotels Ltd, most recently as Vice President of Corporate Marketing/Planning, where he oversaw planning for new hotels and the development of the chain’s international marketing programme.  Prior to this he was Vice President of Field Marketing for Four Seasons, overseeing sales force planning, development and training. 

 

Earlier, Cornell served as Executive Assistant Manager at the Five Diamond Award-winning Four Seasons Olympic Hotel in Seattle, and also held operations and marketing positions at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago, The Stanford Court Hotel in San Francisco, and The Regency in New York.

 

Cornell attended Portland State College in Portland Oregon, The College of Marin in San Anselmo California, The French Institute in New York and he has earned a Certificate in Fine Arts from the Art Institute in Chicago.  He completed his hotel operational apprentice stage at several European Hotels, including the Hotel de la Poste in Zermatt, Switzerland, The Hotel Marhaba in Casablanca, Morocco, Hotel Goldner Greiff in Kitzbuhel, Austria and the Hotel Playa Mar in Torremolinos, Spain.
