Preferred Hotelsâ & Resorts Worldwide, a global brand of independently owned
luxury hotels and resorts, was founded in 1968 by six independent hoteliers as
a representation/referral organisation for their very best guests looking for
hotels in other cities with similar high-end services and unmatched
standards. In the 1980s, when large
chain hotels began their proliferation in the marketplace, Preferred increased
the services available to its members to include reservations services, sales
opportunities and marketing programmes in an effort to
leverage the independent hotels in their competition against large hotel
companies. Preferred evolved yet even
further in the mid 1990’s to its current status as a branded distribution
organisation, becoming a for-profit stock corporation with ownership
participation by the individual hotel owners, who have direct input through the
elected Preferred Advisory Board. Today
Preferred represents more than 120 independent luxury hotels and resorts in 25
countries. All Preferred hotels and
resorts must adhere to Preferred’s award-winning Standards of ExcellenceÔ, an exhaustive quality assurance programme that includes an annual,
third-party-unannounced audit of 1,600 standards and practices. This rigorous approach to quality ensures
