Imbued with the charm of a by-gone, more sympathetic age, Abadia Retuerta Le Domaine offers a welcome retreat from the stresses and strains of modern-day living. Covering some 700 hectares of prime vineyards and farmland, this medieval estate dating back to 1146, located in Sardón de Duero within the historic and fertile region of Castille y Leon, a 45 minute drive from Valladolid or just two hours drive or train ride from Madrid. Sensitively and imaginatively brought into the twenty-first century by Swiss architect, Marco Serra, the 22-room hotel is housed in the former hospice of the Santa Maria de Retuerta Abbey, the gastronomic restaurant – Refectorio - resides in what was once the refectory, the cloisters have become the hotel’s corridors and even the restored, adjoining church, again offers a meeting place but this time, for events. His main aim was to preserve the listed 900-year-old building for future generations ensuring any modern adaptation is easily differentiated from the original architecture. Nearby, the Abadia Retuerta Estate’s winery is producing award-winning vintages of extraordinary pedigree whilst the grounds also feature an outdoor sculpture gallery and helipad. Le Domaine, under the guidance of renowned hotelier, Andres Araya, will be the first hotel in Spain to offer a complete butler service.
