Following an open call to artists in October last year, over 100 artists submitted their work for consideration, with 14 being asked to participate in the first phase of London Bridge Hotel OPEN which will run until June. The 100 entrants came from a huge range of disciplines including ceramics, painting, metal sculpture, printmaking and more with artists having previously been exhibited at their local pub, the Tate and Dulwich Picture Gallery.
London Bridge Hotel General Manager Julio Marques said ‘When I first approached Team London Bridge with the idea for the art exhibition, I had no idea how popular it would be. I am overwhelmed with the wealth of talent that can be found in Southwark.’
Director of Arts and Culture for Team London Bridge, Ellie Beedham said ‘Through the range, excellence and scale of response to the open call late last year, it is clear that there is an appetite for local artists to show their work in alternative venues. London Bridge Hotel is leading the way in this new initiative for artists and businesses to work together to promote art and culture in London Bridge.’
Artists to be exhibited are: Albeiro Rojas Tomedes, Shirley Hunter, Gail Seres-Woolfson, Henrietta MacPhee, Joanna Brinton, Joanna McCormick, Lloyd Durling, Pablo Rodriguez Blanco, Ray Bridge, Richard Starbuck, Russel Herneman, Stephen Dunn, Steve Chapman and Ying Chang.

London Bridge Culture Strategy by Team London Bridge was launched in March 2018 and is committed to shifting the perception of the area as a place ‘to go to’ rather than ‘go through’; and to become the destination for everyone to experience what makes London one of the most creative and culture-rich cities in the world.
The culture programme will consider the variety of public stages that exist throughout the London Bridge area and explore creative partnerships with our BID members and landowners.
