The housekeeping team at Viceroy Riviera Maya, Mexico show their creative side during turn down each night when they build a “towel sculpture” from a repertoire of around 30 designs, beautifully displayed on a guest villa’s bed.
Designs might range from dogs, to rabbits, elephants to stingrays and monkeys to entwined swans (for honeymooners) and each member of the team has their own speciality.
Towel art has always been a feature of the property since its inception but recently, has been taken to new heights following guest feedback, begging the housekeeping team to both show them how to create the designs themselves and to add to their dexterous repertoire to amaze them on return stays. (Viceroy Riviera Maya has a very high repeat guest ratio).
Alejandra Baeza the head housekeeper when we visited, taught the children of a British couple how to create these unique designs during their stay and on the last day of their holiday – the kiddies created 10 of their designs – perfectly – as a tribute to her. She has since heard that they are continuing their “towel origami” at home and are anxious to return to share their new creations with the team!
