Originally from Sicily, but born in Avignon, Jean Alesi made his debut into racing with Rally, Formula 3 and Formula 3000. His career highlight was when he broke into Formula 1 on the mythical French circuit, “Paul Ricard”. Although starting with a modest Tyrrell Racing team, he managed to face Ayrton Senna himself and even shared the podium with him in Monaco the following year.
During his fantastic beginning in the Formula 1, he became very sought after by the biggest teams at that time. However, he followed his heart and finally signed with Ferrari, which later made him very admired and esteemed, in particular for his committed and direct style of driving.
Jean Alesi’s story is one of passion and love for driving. His time in Formula 1 is marked by the crisis of the Ferrari Scuderia, his time in Flavio Briatore’s Benetton, the Sauber Petronas team and finally the Jordan one.
Due to his persistence and personality, it was an easy decision for Fairmont Monte Carlo to dedicate its Grand Prix Suite, “number 4002-04” to Jean Alesi. The most significant number to him was the “4” because it was the number he used in his first ever Monaco race . The others are the number of Monaco races that Jean Alesi took part in and some are for the number of times that he entered the Famous Hairpin, which can be admired from one of the balconies of this Suite.
One of the most passionate Formula 1 drivers ever will go down in history with this remarkable suite, his overall driving ability and the trophy of ‘the best lap in Monaco’. His story will be remembered and will act as a unique tribute, placed in the heart of the most symbolic Grand Prix.
