AFerry.co.uk recently announced an increase of 16% in the number of short break bookings in the first six months of 2016 over 2015. A short break being defined as a stay of between two and five days. Going on the latest figures, holiday makers are heading for France but the real winner appears to be the Scottish isles which have seen a particular boom in bookings. This is reiterated in the recent ferry stats issued by Discover Ferries.
The reasons for the increase seem to be a focus on offers from the operators for this vacation duration, excellent tactical deals on the ferries focused again on short stays and the preference of the public to either up their holidays from a day trip to something a little longer or downsize from a long vacation to a series of shorter breaks.
The ease of ferry travel, with a great choice of crossings, no need to worry about the amount of luggage carried (even the dog can come) and the opportunity to admire the scenery in a more relaxing fashion, are all reasons why this type of holiday has grown in popularity. Add to that the multi- port option coming on line – leaving from one place and returning to another, making a touring holiday a lot easier to plan with more to enjoy en route.
So the AFerry booking platform is doing very well with the price and route compare functionality which helps to compare short break deals ensuring that customers are given all the best options for their search!
Kirsty Laifa, Head of Sales, said – ‘We at AFerry are delighted with this increase in this year, before the busy summer peak is upon us. Ferry travel can really give superb short break options easily competing with busy airports, low cost airlines and the stresses of flying,’
