“The Sounds of the Alps I – A Multi-Media Symphonic Concert” will take place on 20th August 2004. The world premiere will be staged by the most successful and most performed of Swiss composers abroad, the saxophonist Daniel Schnyder. Richard Strauss’s “Alpine Symphony” will ring out in the Gstaad festival tent, and this multimedia highlight will be backed by a film, specially shot in Saanenland. Under commission from the Menuhin Festival, Schnyder will perform his symphony for full orchestra and Alpenhorn. The Alpenhorn concert is tailor-made for the Russian Alpenhorn virtuoso Arkady Shilkloper, regarded as one of the masters of his art. And with attractive hotel deals too, an exceptional weekend of premieres is guaranteed.

For lovers of the classical genre, the almost 50-year-old festival is a not-to-be-missed date in the musical calendar. During seven weeks of events, guests can take their pick of concerts of different types “Festive: Gstaad Chamber Music Festival”, “Classical: Orchestra Concerts & Opera” and “Experimental: Today’s Music”.
