New research* commissioned by A Place in the Sun Live has revealed that the North West above any other region in the UK (91%) has the desire to invest in that perfect overseas property. The cold weather and endless rain of the UK remains the main reason to bolt for that place in the sun, with 34% of those in the north-west alone citing this as their reason to consider living abroad. However the research brought to light some of the regions fears that could prevent the dream home or investment from becoming a reality�

With any investment it is vital to trust and understand where you money is going and more than a third of the region did not really know whose advice to trust. People were worried that they will lose money on their investment. Foreign law also remained a big factor for not choosing to buy a home abroad. Over a fifth (20.9%) of respondents in the North West admitted that they would spend a large windfall on a home abroad. With the current state of the property market in the UK many residents are unsure of the quality of their investment and this is reflected in a low 39% who would choose to buy in their home country.
