The one and only Balboa Bar is a unique refreshing treat from Balboa Island. The Balboa bar is a rich slab of vanilla ice cream on a lollipop stick covered in thick dark chocolate then rolled in nuts or hundreds and thousands. These irresistible confections can be found at Dad’s Donuts or Sugar n’ Spice on Balboa Island and at the Balboa Fun Zone .
No trip to Newport Beach would be complete without trying this strangely tasty and all American sweetie, Salt Water Taffy. These chewy little sweets come in hundreds of different flavours – watermelon, peppermint, chilli, mango etc so your selection may take a while! If the Balboa Bar dose not grab your fancy then why not try the frozen banana – a frozen banana, dipped in chocolate and covered in hundreds & thousands or chopped nuts. According to Wikipedia, locals believe Balboa Island is where the frozen chocolate banana was first marketed and indeed, this story is referenced in the American television show Arrested Development in which the wealthy Bluth family of Orange County owns a frozen chocolate banana stand on Balboa Island.
