Sardón de Duero, Spain – April, 2014: Leading culinary media from around the world convened 28th – 30th March 2014 at Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, the historic winery and hotel estate in Spain’s Duero wine region, for an unprecedented conclave to explore the evolution of gastronomy.
World-renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adrià presided over the seminal event which marked the first ever meeting for the elBulliFoundation, appropriately being held within the walls of an award-winning, 900-year-old winery that is emerging as one of Spain’s top culinary destinations.
“At this historic conclave, leading culinary minds had a chance to discuss and reflect on the new ideas, approaches and concepts of the past 20 years that have reinvented dining and explored how continuing innovation and creativity will impact the future,” said Andres Araya, managing director of Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine. “At LeDomaine we merge historic tradition and fine wines with revolutionary cuisine at our Refectorio restaurant, making us the ideal choice for this momentous event.”
The conclave was organised by Ferran Adrià, considered one of the best chefs in the world who is celebrated for his three Michelin stars elBulli restaurant on Spain’s Costa Brava. The event brought together 16 participants from eight countries, including Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. With leading international food media gathered at LeDomaine, Chef Adriá also elaborated on his plans for the elBulli Foundation – the first time he has officially briefed the gastronomic media about his plans, the first element of which will open next month on 15th May.
Ferran Adria is effectively on a fact finding mission for Bullipedia – one of his projects – a curated online culinary resource which is intended to inspire, teach and help people find ideas – a way of accumulating knowledge through browsing. This event was part of that process, allowing him to discuss the past 20 years of culinary evolution with his peers and to give it context in a historical timeline. It was also the first gastronomic conference he has attended in three years.
