Since the early 1900s, the Hotel Savoy has been welcoming Europes best families to Madeiras shores. From a small family business with humble ambitions but with a grand name, Royal Hotel, grew a tradition of sincere and discerning hospitality. Proprietor Dias do Nascimento changed the hotels name in 1914 to Hotel Savoy and subsequently had so much success, that the hotel was twice extended. Todays classic Savoy offers guests the utmost privacy, a sophisticated retreat with friendly service. Located a stones throw from the bustling harbour and in the heart of Funchals illustrious restaurant quarter, the Hotel Savoy offers 337 individually decorated rooms, all featuring balconies overlooking either the ocean or the mountains.
In February 2002, the Hotel Savoys sister property, the Royal Savoy, opened offering 162 luxurious studios, suites and penthouses and featuring breathtaking views over the Atlantic. The two properties together form The Savoy Resort with guests having the choice of staying at the more traditional classic Savoy or the state of the art, contemporary Royal Savoy whilst sharing the facilities of both.

Sports Nearby:
|
Madeira is a paradise for keen walkers but there is also an extensive range of sporting facilities from para-gliding, rock climbing, mountain biking to horse-riding and tennis.
There are two championship courses on Madeira the 27 hole Santo da Serra, set in an eucalyptus forest almost 700 metres above sea level offering spectacular views (regularly hosts PGA European Tour Events); and the 18 hole Palheiro Golf, which opened in 1993 on a hillside overlooking Funchal.
As an island, Madeira also offers a number of water sports including water-skiing, surfing, wind surfing, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing. In addition, Madeira is also gaining an international reputation as a top-class deep sea fishing destination, the place to catch 500 kg plus blue marlin.
