HEADWATER’S
EUROPE 2001/2002
OVERVIEW:
The Headwater Europe programme includes North Africa too and
features winter walking and cross country skiing holidays throughout
Europe and Morocco in the new 64-page brochure.
LAUNCHED:
Headwater began their winter programme back in 1989 and has built a
formidable European portfolio since those early days.
At first the programme offered only cross-country skiing holidays
but in 1995 winter walking tours were introduced.
No winter cycling holidays have been contracted as yet, but who
knows what the future might bring!
WHAT’S
NEW 2002?: New for this coming winter are the ski destinations of
Oberammagau in Germany and Asiago in Italy.
Both areas have been chosen because they offer pretty trails to
ski, nice villages in which to stay and the cross-country skiing areas are
very popular with the locals.
Also new on the ‘winter sun’ front are independent walking
tours in Andalucia, southern Spain as well as in Cyprus.
There are new guided tours in Tenerife, Canary Islands and in
Pantelleria, which is just off the coast of Sicily. La Gomera was only launched in the 2000/2001 season but has
proven so popular.
WHAT
DESTINATIONS:
For cross-country skiing: France
- both the Massif Central and Jura as well as Les Alpes de Haute Provence;
Italy, Switzerland, Finland,
Norway, Germany and Austria.
For winter walking: the Spanish venues are Valencia and the Costa
Blanca, Seville and the Sierras, Andalucia, Tenerife in the Canaries and
Mallorca in the Balearics. The
islands of Madeira (Portugal), Gozo (Malta), Cyprus and Pantelleria
(Italy). In North Africa –
Morocco’s Atlas Mountains and Sahara are to be explored.
WHY
THESE TOURS:
Headwater clients have been requesting for some time the
introduction of more winter warmth tours!
It is also true that islands are very popular indeed with Headwater
clients, especially the smaller ones.
The skiing destinations complement the rest of the cross –
country programme, Germany gaining generally in popularity.

All of the products offered by Headwater are unique to them.
2.
‘If
it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ – if a destination is popular it will
stay in the programme. For
example, Venabu was the very first destination offered for cross-country
skiing and it is still in the brochure and it is still extremely popular.
3.
Evident
by the new products in the brochure this year,
Headwater listen to their customers and react to their requests.
4.
Some of the holidays provided have no single supplement,
‘Undiscovered Andalucia’ for example, very unusual, and there are some
great deals for those travelling with children too.
PRICES:
The lead in price is £339 per person
for a self-drive holiday in Pailherols, Auvergne, France for seven nights
on a full-board basis, all ski passes included.
This represents exceptional value for money.
The food here is fantastic – simply a must.
Prices go up to about £750 for a week in Scandinavia but then one
