Marlene Dumas: Basel’s Fondation Beyeler is hosting another spectacular exhibition for 2015 – running until 6th September – Marlene Dumas’ #The Image as Burden’ planned and designed in close collaboration with Marlene and realised together with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Tate Modern London. Sticking to a basic chronological order, the show traces her development as an artist. On display is a selection of over a hundred paintings and drawings, including several rarely shown collages from her early work.
Treasures from the Deep. The Shipwreck of Antikythera: In 1900, Greek sponge divers stumbled across a wreck dating from the 1st century BC on the seabed near the tiny island of Antikythera. The marine wreck yielded the greatest haul of ancient treasure that had ever been found including weapons, jewellery, furniture and some exquisite statues. But the most famous find was a mysterious bronze object: The Antikythera mechanism. www.antikenmuseumbasel.ch
