Next year Canada’s National Parks, including the oldest of the lot – the stunning Banff National Park will be celebrating their 125th anniversary!
Back in 1880, Sir John MacDonald had a stroke of genius, proposing a national park system to be built to protect the beautiful locations and natural wildlife. After three years, Banff National Park was born, the first of 42 national parks in Canada.
Banff National Park is part of the Rocky Mountain UNESCO World Heritage Site, with 6,641 square kilometres of stunning mountains, rivers, valleys and hot springs.
The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel opened in 1888 and marked the birthplace of tourism in the Canadian Rockies, a historical centrepiece of the park, styled after a Scottish baronial Castle, which has been delighting guests for 124 years, like the park itself.
To help mark this auspicious occasion the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel will be bringing in the New Year in a big way. The New Year’s Gala will be taking place in the Van Horne Ballroom, the hotel’s incredible culinary team will be working hard to craft the perfect celebratory dinner, followed by dancing to bring in 2013. Kids can have just as much fun at the Kids Club – with a party, dancing, bowling, games and festive activities – they can of course join the parents to bring in the New Year too! Before the evening celebrations, parents and kids alike can burn off some energy at The New Year’s Family Skating Party. A three course meal at the charming Waldhaus Pub is followed by some skating on the ice rink.
Celebrate the New Year and the Year of Banff with The Fairmont Banff Springs in style!
